The hill station called Valparai in Taminadu offers stunning landscape views in addition to sighting of the endangered Nilgiri Tahr at close quarters. Tiger sighting is not uncommon here along with other endemic species of Western Ghats. Thattekkad is known for its world famous bird sanctuary founded by Salim Ali, the bird man of India. Almost all flora and fauna endemic to Western Ghats is found here. Vagamon, the land of rolling Grass Mountains is an idyllic hill station in Idukki district of Kerala famous for its endemic birds. Periyar National Park is first of its kind in India where two protected species are present, the Asiatic elephant and the Tiger. In addition to the flora and fauna endemic to the Western Ghats, boating, trekking, bamboo rafting, Tiger trail are among the surprises in store for the visitor. The tourist village of Kumarakom is better known for house boats rides and the Kumarkom bird sanctuary.
