The Gomateswara temple is built on top of a hill at an altitude of 3347 feet, called as Vindhyagiri hill (also known as Doddabetta or Indragiri). About 620 steps provide access to this temple from bottom of the hill. The nude statue of Bahubali is carved carefully with much perfection. The historic city of Mysore houses a number of historical monuments and witnessed many a battle those which shaped the destiny of modern India. The Chennakesava temple located on the banks of river Kaveri is at treat to the eyes. The intricate carvings in this temple date back from the days of Hoysala empire. Srirangapatnam was the capital of Tipu Sultan famously known as the tiger of Mysore for his heroics in the battlefield. This historic city also witnessed the last battle of Tipu and is a treasure house of innumerable documentary evidences of this glorious era. Vagamon the hill station known for its salubrious climate is a trekker’s delight, a place to unwind and to be one with nature. Periyar National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area near Thekkady in Kerala noted for being both a tiger and elephant reserve. The flora and fauna here typifies the essence of Western Ghats and is a must see destination in international tour itineraries. Sighting of almost all flora and fauna unique to Western Ghats is more than a chance to visitors fortunate enough to visit this forest tract of great biodiversity. Kumarakom village situated on the shores of Vembanad lake in addition to its house boats, are home to a large variety of migratory birds. The beautiful beach of Marari is located in Alleppey district and has been rated as one of the five top hammock beaches by National Geographic survey. Kochi was ranked seventh in the list of top 10 cities to visit during 2020 by lonely planet.
